Guitar Basic Chords

When Reading Guitar Chords there are just a few important details to remember.

  • An "X" represents a muted string. You mute a string by placing a finger over the string but not pushing down
  • A Small circle represents an open string. An open string is just played as.
  • A large circle represents a fret you have to finger

It is important to provide adequete pressure on each string to avoid a "buzzing" sound when the chord is played. This will come with time and practice, for additional help in conditioning your fingures to handle the strain see our Daily Exercises page.
